American Program (H.S.D) Overview

  • What is the American High School Diploma?

The American High School Diploma is a school leaving qualification awarded upon high school graduation. The high school diploma is typically obtained after a course of study lasting four years, from grade 9 to grade 12 where the officially enrolled students in this program must satisfy certain requirements (credits and external exams) to obtain the certificate and the local equivalency duly.

  • How can the students be officially enrolled in the program at Mayar International Schools?

All the candidates who are willing to join the American High School Diploma at MIS shall go through the following process to be eligible for registration:

  1. Conduct an interview with the program’s coordinator.
  2. Sit for a digital diagnostic test.
  3. Submit previous high school transcripts and previous standardized test scores, if any, such as PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, MAP, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, or APs.
  4. Provide the program’s coordinator with previous, complete curricular requirements that have been successfully achieved in previous schools upon need and request.

  • Who is eligible for admissions in the American High School Diploma Program?

Grade 9: the students who were enrolled in the national and the international programs (whether British, American, or IB) in grade 8.

Grade 10: the students who were enrolled in the national and the international programs (whether British, American, or IB) in grade 9.

Grade 11:only the students who were enrolled in the international programs (whether British, American, or IB) in grade 10.

Grade 12:only the students who were enrolled in the American Program in grade 11.

  • What are the assessments the students can take at Mayar International Schools?

MIS follows rigid and comprehensive framework to cover the requirements of the American High School Diploma in conformity with the Jordanian MOE and in alignment with the international accreditation agencies, namely Accreditation International (Ai) and Cognia (formerly AdvancED), which accredited our schools in 2018 and 2021 respectively.

All the students earn credits in the main subject areas, namely Mathematics (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and/or Calculus), English Language & Literature, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics), Social Studies, Arabic Language, Jordan History, and Islamic Education.

Thus, the students in the American High School Diploma Program at MIS are expected to sit for the following international assessments whether for the sake of assessment or obtain their local equivalency and apply for the global universities outside Jordan. The students have the right and freedom to choose whatever test they want to take with what best meets their college admission requirements whether locally or globally. Each student is asked to have a special session with the program’s coordinator who guides the students on their options after checking the local and/or global admission requirements.

  • PSAT 8/9 (not included in the local equivalency and can be optionally taken for the purpose of assessment only)
